Dentures and implant-retained dentures
A denture is a removable set of teeth. A conventional denture rests on the gums. An implant-retained denture clips onto a few implants, and still comes out for cleaning.
Dr. Leung designs and makes dentures, and places the implants for a retained one.
What happens
Usually four to six visits for a conventional denture. A retained denture adds surgery and healing.
- 01
Step 1: Consult and scan
An exam, a scan or impression of your mouth, and a talk about how your current teeth feel and what you want.
- 02
Step 2: A plan in writing
The type of denture, the teeth, and an estimate. A retained denture adds the implants.
- 03
Step 3: Trying it in
Dr. Leung tries the teeth in wax so you can see them and tell us what to change before the denture is finished.
- 04
Step 4: Fitting
The finished denture, a check of your bite, and instructions for cleaning and wearing it.
- 05
Step 5: Adjustments
New dentures need small adjustments. We schedule them, and later relines as the jaw changes.
Comfort, choices and care
Comfort
A new denture needs a few days of getting used to, and we adjust any sore spot. A retained denture's implant surgery is numbed, and you can ask for a break.
Other choices
An implant bridge, a partial denture, or a retained denture in place of a conventional one. Dr. Leung compares them.
If you wait
An ill-fitting denture can irritate the gums and make eating harder. A poor fit can be adjusted or remade.
Risks and after-care
Dentures can loosen as the jaw changes, and clips wear. Take it out each night, clean it and rest your gums. A retained denture carries the risks of implant surgery, which Dr. Leung explains first.
How it is billed
In stages, with a written estimate first. Whether your plan pays toward a denture is the plan's decision.

Questions about dentures
Do I have to remove my remaining teeth?
Only those that cannot be kept. Dr. Leung tells you which, and why.
How long does a denture last?
It depends on your jaw, your care and the denture. Relines and replacements are part of wearing one, and we tell you what to expect.
Can I add implants to my current denture?
Sometimes. The scan shows whether you have enough bone, and Dr. Leung tells you if the denture can be used.
