Crowns and bridges
A crown covers a tooth that has been weakened by decay or a break. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by joining crowns on the teeth beside the gap. A crown can also finish a single implant.
Provided by a general dentist: Dr. Aksoy or Dr. Booker.
What happens
Usually two visits for a crown, over about two to three weeks.
- 01
Step 1: Exam
An exam and X-rays when needed, then a plan that says what we would do and what else you could do.
- 02
Step 2: Preparing the tooth
We numb the area, shape the tooth and take a scan of it. You wear a temporary crown meanwhile.
- 03
Step 3: Making the crown
The crown is made from the scan. It usually takes a couple of weeks.
- 04
Step 4: Fitting
We check the fit and your bite, then cement the crown or attach it to the implant.
Comfort, choices and care
Comfort
We numb the area, and you can ask for a break. A prepared tooth can be sensitive for a few days.
Other choices
A filling, an onlay, or leaving the tooth as it is for now. A bridge can be compared with an implant.
If you wait
A cracked or decayed tooth can get worse, and may then need a root canal or removal.
Risks and after-care
A crown can chip, loosen or need replacing, and the tooth under it can still decay. Brush and floss around it, and keep your check-ups.
How it is billed
With a written estimate first. Whether your plan pays toward a crown is the plan's decision.

Questions about crowns and bridges
Can a crown go on an implant?
Yes. Dr. Aksoy fits the crown on a single implant once Dr. Leung has placed it and it has healed.
How long does a crown last?
It depends on the tooth, the material and how you care for it. We tell you what to expect when we plan it.
Do I need a temporary crown?
Yes, while the permanent one is made. Please avoid sticky food on that side.
